近年、発展途上国では水処理技術の普及が行き届いていないために生活等の排水が海や川に流され水質汚濁が深刻化している。先進国に比べ電気などの動力源の一定供給が困難な中でコストをかけることはできない。そうした中で、廃棄物発生が少なく低コストでエネルギー消費の少ない排水処理技術が必要とされている。
この背景の中で本研究では、発展途上国の１つであるタイにおいて問題となっている染色工場から川へと流出される排水による水質汚濁問題において現地調査を行い問題点を明確にし解決策を提案することを目的とする。
