[CS1-08] Analysis on the effectiveness of flood disaster-mitigation classes using hydraulic models for elementary school students
Keywords:Disaster prevention learning, Model experiment, questionnaire, 5th grade elementary school, Science education
Toward enhancing public awareness of flood disasters, we gave flood disaster-mitigation classes that use hydraulic models. This study reports on the effectiveness of those classes in terms of raising flood awareness.
The classes were given to 5th graders. As a part of regular school classes, disaster-mitigation education involving hydraulic models was conducted. The participants were surveyed by questionnaire before and after class, and their responses were analyzed by using MeCab, a morphological analysis engine. The participants were found to have a significantly higher awareness of flood danger and of the need for flood disaster preparation after the classes than before them.
