Since masonry stone walls are vulnerable structure to strong earthquake motion, the masonry stone walls have suffered severe damages during the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes. In order to mitigate these damages of masonry stone walls, it is necessary to clarify the collapse mechanism and make the appropriate safety assessment and the countermeasures.
In this study, I conducted four inclination tests of small masonry stone wall model and performed the numerical simulations for all inclination tests. As a result, the numerical simulations reproduced the inclination tests of small masonry stone wall model with high precision and the validity of 3D-DEM using polyhedral elements was demonstrated.
