[CS10-55] Arching effect and dynamic behavior of an embankment placing on soft ground
Keywords:embankment, arching effect, soft ground, liquefaction, subsidence profile, dynamic behavior
The arch action and the dynamic behavior of centrifugal model of embankment for which the soft ground and the rigid ground were employed, was investigated. The experiments indicated that embankment model resting on the urethane ground condition under centrifugal acceleration experiences the arching effect immediately after the fluid supply so that the effective vertical earth pressure underneath the embankment become relatively minimum. Two different behaviors of the liquefied embankment started at its central bottom can be either a) the arch action is subsequently formed and promotes further load transfer or b) the entire bottom of the embankment is liquefied and the arch action is eliminated.
