Global warming technology, which captures carbon dioxide from large-scale sources such as thermal power plants and injects it into geological formations, is a well-known method of reducing atmospheric CO2 emissions. On the other hand, in the United States, CO2-EOR has been practiced since the 1970s, in which natural CO2 is transported over long distances to oil fields by pipeline and injected into depleted oil reservoirs. However, this technology is not well known, except in the United States, currently, nor is it in Japan. This paper introduces the supercritical CO2 pipeline and EOR which are effective for transporting CO2 over long distances, and discusses the problems related to its application.
