Many fatigue cracks were found at the top weld of vertical stiffeners in orthotropic steel decks. Few countermeasures were already proposed. However, these methods may reduce vertical stiffness of the stiffeners. This study carried out FEM analyses of vertical stiffeners with modified half circle cut method and with fillet shaping method based on fatigue retrofitting method of beam-to-column connections of frame steel piers. As a result, fillet type with R=30mm was most efficient shape for fatigue strength improvement.
