In 2019, two transmission towers collapsed by Tyhoon FAXAI. Clarifying the cause of this collapse is expected to provide new knowledge on wind-resistant design.
In this study, to clarify the collapse process of the transmission towers, following analysis were carried out; 1) CFD analysis of surrounding terrain, 2) Dynamic motion analysis based on wind load of power transmission cable obtained using wind speed distribution, and 3) Linear frame structure analysis based on static wind load.
As results, it was clarified that the airflow near the collapse site was strongly affected by the terrain, and Tower 79 was more likely to collapse before Tower 78.
