[I-237] Study on aerodynamic performance of single-box girder with the consideration of the details of handrail configuration
Keywords:vortex-induced vibration, handrail configuration, wind tunnel test
For the bridge wind-resistant design, one of important issues is to evaluate the aerodynamic instability induced by the bridge attachments such as handrails. And how to model the handrail shape for mesh simplification in CFD draws a large concern. In this study, free vibration wind tunnel tests were conducted to evaluate the influence of handrail shape on VIV. Without changing porosity and the top horizontal bar, as the number of middle bars increases, the maximum heaving VIV amplitude decreases. In addition, increasing the side ratio of the middle horizontal bar also reduces the maximum amplitude of heaving VIV.
