To elucidate the detruction process of the initial recruitment vegetation and its effect on the river bed evolution and the existed vegetation during the flood period, one sand bed river (Suzuka River) located at the Mie Perfecture was selected as the study object. The method of field investigation and numerical simulation were conducted in this study, and the following results were obtained in the study. ① The evolution of river bed (erosion and deposition) was the main cause of the initial recruitment vegetation during the flood period. ② The initial recruitment vegetation can not only promote the sand deposition, but can also lower the destruction rate of the existed vegetation.
