Keywords:Expansive mortar, Compressive strength of restrained specimen, Chemical press

A mortar obtained by substituting a part of cement with a commercially available intumescent material was cast into a constrained formwork, and a specimen subjected to chemical prestressing was manufactured to examine the compressive strength characteristics. The compressive strength of the confined specimen with the replacement ratio increased the most when the replacement ratio was about 4%. When a length change test using a corrugated tube is conducted in accordance with ASTM C1698, the replacement rate of about 4% is a replacement rate that gives the amount of expansion to compensate for the initial shrinkage, which increases the compressive strength due to restraint.
