Reinforced concrete structures such as expressway bridges are been severely deteriorated due to corrosion of steel caused by airborne salt particles near the cost and deicing agents. In order to solve this problem, authors have developed an ultra-highly durable precast bridge railing (Dura-Barrier) that does not use any steel such as rebar or PC strands. Dura-Barrier uses non-corrosive GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics) rods as an alternative to steel rebar. The anchoring performance and the strength of the bent parts of GFRP rods were investigated to be used as a substitute for rebar.
