鉄道と道路は、共に社会的に重要なインフラであり、その交差部の維持管理は、社会にとっても双方にとっても非常に重要で、地震発生時や復旧時等に双方の機能を維持し続けることは、重要かつ喫緊の課題である。新幹線、在来幹線、貨物線、計１２線をも跨ぐ幹線道路橋の耐震補強工事は、線路近接や空頭等の多くの制限や支障物があるが、関係各所と綿密な調整を行い、各所の利点を逆に活用して効率的に且つ機能支障することなく完工させた。
