In large cross-section slurry shield tunnel project, attempts have been made to suppress the eruption and fluctuation from the screw conveyor during excavation using foam and mud-added material. However, economic efficiency, responsiveness and eruption risk due to rupture of the air bubbles can be considered respectively. In this paper, multiple mixtures of foam and mud-added material were applied in the actual large cross-section shield machine, to investigate the suppress of eruption and responsiveness. Also, the economic efficiency was ensured by using different foaming ratio.
