Environmental DNA is a generic name for DNA that exists in water. By examining the DNA contained in the sample water, it is possible to understand what species are present in the study area. The alien species of crayfish have been expanding in Hokkaido where the native species of Japanese crayfish live. For this reason, it is important to understand the relationship between the habitats of both Japanese crayfish and Signal crayfish. In this paper, we conducted environmental DNA and capture distribution surveys on native Japanese crayfish and Signal crayfish introduced into Lake Akan in the 1970s.
