[S01A-03] Solute macrodispersion in upscaling stratified porous media
Keywords:Macrodispersion, Upscaling, Stratified porous media, Laboratory-scale experiment, Random Walk Particle Tracking
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of upscaling on solute macrodispersion in stratified porous media. In order to identify the relationship between the degrees of macrodispersion and upscaling, a combined experimental and numerical investigation is conducted. The laboratory-scale solute transport experiment is performed in a stratified porous formation, and longitudinal and transverse macrodispersivities are estimated. The data from the experiment are utilized to validate a numerical model that is then used to perform computational analyses in the upscaled cases. It is shown that upscaling does not affect the transverse macrodispersivity, while the longitudinal macrodispersivity is underestimated.
