[S03B-01] Failure Mechanism Analysis of Plain Concrete Pier during Earthquakes by Numerical Simulation and Shaking Table Test
Keywords:Failure Mechanism Analysis, Finite Element Method, Plain Concrete Pier, Shaking Table Test
It has been reported that the railway plain concrete piers were damaged in the past earthquakes. The typical damage patterns are the failure of the concrete pier under the cold joint and horizontal dislocation at the joint. It is important to understand the failure mechanism of the plain concrete pier to enhance its seismic performance. In this paper, the failure mechanism of the plain concrete pier was revealed by the finite element analysis from the view point of stress distribution. In addition, the shaking table test was conducted using the miniature model and the revealed mechanism was verified.
