[S04A-05] Influence of Pile Arrangement on the Flow Around Pile-groups Placed in Different Locations of an Open-channel
Keywords:pile group, flow structure, turbulence characteristics, riverbank stability
This study investigated the flow structure and turbulence characteristics around various pile-groups in different locations of an open-channel. The main purpose was to evaluate the influence of pile arrangement on the flow for velocity control along the bank. The pile-groups were studied along the bank and in the mid-channel to clarify the effects of the sidewall on the flow change. The results demonstrated significant impacts of pile arrangement on both the flow structure and turbulence characteristics. A gradual deceleration of the flow with suppressed turbulence can be obtained by changing the arrangement of piles, which can significantly improve riverbank stability. The presence of the sidewall in the side cases acted as the axis of symmetry of the mid-channel cases.
