A computational method using the finite volume method in the collocated grid system was developed to

compute viscoelastic fluids. The Giesekus model, which is a differential nonlinear viscoelastic model, was

used as the constitutive equation. The proposed method was applied to the flow of Newtonian and viscoelastic

fluids between parallel plates. As a result, it was confirmed that calculated velocity distributions in steady-state

are in good agreement with analytical solutions. Furthermore, The viscoelastic fluid was calculated in

the abrupt contraction. It was demonstrated that the proposed method enables us to reasonably predict a

lip vortex near the abruptly contracting section, which is characteristic of viscoelastic fluids. The lip vortex

depends on Reynolds and Weisenberg numbers as well as the mobility parameter α.
