[S03B-05] Scour Identification of Bridge Pies using Modal Macro-strain Analysis

The present investigation deals with the scour monitoring through the area-distributed sensing system and long-gauge strain sensors. In the current study, scour damages were detected in terms of the change in modal macro-strain vector which is estimated using vibration data of long-gauge strain sensors. Experimental results of bridge pier specimens under different scour damage levels were carried out. The comparison results of long-gauge strain sensors, accelerometers, and strain gauges were presented, so as to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method in identifying location and amount of scour damages.
