[S03C-02] Study on the Effect of Filling Material Size on Seismic Resistance of Stone Bridges
Keywords:Stone bridge, Filling material, Refined DEM, Shaking table experiment, Crushed stone
Several stone bridges were damaged during the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. The most severe damage was the collapse of the wall stones. It is reported that the collapse of the outer wall stones may be caused by the collapse of crushed stones filling inside of the bridge. In this study, we carried out shaking table experiments using two types of simplified stone bridge models with different crushed stone sizes. It was observed that the model filled with larger crushed stones showed higher seismic resistance. The numerical simulations using the refined DEM was also conducted and the same tendency was obtained.
