[S04B-04] Hydraulic Experiments on the Development of Sand Waves in Backwater Section
Keywords:Back Water, Sand Waves, Blue Laser
We conducted hydraulic experiments to understand 1) the development of sand waves in response to the water level at the downstream end of the flume and 2) the influence of sand waves on the water level. The spatial measurements of the riverbed were carried out using a blue laser, and its validity is discussed in this study. The experimental results show that the wavelength and height of sand waves measured by the blue laser were almost identical to those measured by visual observation. The root-mean-square error RMSE is 0.02 m when the bed height measured by the blue laser is compared with the bed height measured visually. Our study shows that the blue-laser method is an efficient technique for the spatial measurement of the riverbed.
