[13001-06-03] Evaluation of the Particle-Wall Friction Effects on Dry Bulk Cargo Loads during Transverse Acceleration Using by DEM (Proceedings of Symposium on Applied Mechanics)
Keywords:Discrete Element Method (DEM), earth pressure, granular material, friction coefficient
The internal load working on the ship hull was evaluated using by discrete element method (DEM) with various particle-wall frictions. As the friction coefficient increases, dynamic shear force on the bottom plate and the pressure-receiving side wall (here the right-side wall) increases and dynamic pressure on the right-side wall decreases. The analyses results indicate that the particle-wall friction has the potential to reduce the inertial force caused by transverse accelerated cargo.
