[14005-09-05] Validation of Estimating Method for Spilled Water Amount From a Rectangular Tank Based on Numerical Simulations of Seismically-induced Sloshing Flow (Proceedings of Symposium on Applied Mechanics)

The numerical simulations of overflow due to seismically-induced slosing from a liquid-filled rectangular tank were preformed by using OpenFOAM. The grid refinement study was conducted, and the accuracy of the 2-D simulation models were checked against the experimental results. The finer mesh modelswell simulated the observed spilled water amount from the tank. Futhermore, the simplified estimation method of the spilled water amount is proposed. The estimation results were presented for three types of observed earthquake motions, and the applicability of the method to this specific problem is discussed.
