This study examines damage factors on a real scale with reference to actual damage cases using distinct element method. First, the analysis conditions are based on the analysis of damage factors in the field survey and the size of boulder obtained from the boulder survey. The analysis model verifies the damaged members due to the initial conditions at boulder impact. The results showed that a free fall case from the top of an open Sabo dam to the downstream diagonal member would cause damage to the joints using the maximum boulder diameter of 5.0 m.
