International Oral Session 1 Volume overload in acute heart failure: from organ congestion to“decongestive therapy”

Mon. Feb 9, 2015 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Room 3 (Hotel Nikko Tokyo 1F Jupitar)

Chair:Alexandre Mebazaa (Department of Anesthesiology, Hopital Lariboisiere, Paris, France), Brian David Porvin(Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, John C. Lincoln Hospital, Phoenix, AZ, USA)

The main cause of volume overload is heart failure (HF). By 2030, it is estimated that the prevalence of heart failure will increase 25% from 2013 estimates in the US. The situation is same in Japan, indicating that we have a great opportunity to be encountered critically-ill patients with HF. Volume overload can lead to organ congestion, including cardiac congestion, renal congestion, and liver congestion. Although the pathophysiology of organ congestion is complex and challenging, many basic and clinical scientists are trying to reach for the starts. In this session, we will discuss not only the mechanisms of vicious cycle of organ congestion, but the management of volume overload, decongestive therapy with world specialists. Let’s get down to talk about the world of volume overload.
