FDG-PET/CT has been used as a diagnostic imaging modality for patients with oral cancer, and various standardized uptake values (SUVs) have been used as objective evaluation indices of FDG accumulation. Among them, SUVmax is the most widely used index. There have been many studies that focused on the significance of SUVmax in patients with oral cancer, and most of them concluded that the diagnostic performance of FDG-PET/CT with SUVmax was equivalent to or better than that of the morphological imaging methods including CT and MRI. On the other hand, SUV is also known to be a semi-quantitative index that is affected by various factors. In this session, we would like to introduce the current status of FDG-PET/CT examinations for oral cancers and discuss the significance of SUV from various angles.
