It is a great honor for us to host the 2023 International Conference for the 43rd Japanese Society of Sport Education at the Setagaya Campus of Nippon Sport Science University on September 23-24, 2023. As the host institution, I would like to welcome all of you warmly.

Nippon Sport Science University, founded in 1891 as the "Physical Education Association," has consistently focused on promoting physical education, sport, and leaders under the founding spirit of "體育富強之基" (Taiiku Fukkyo no Motoki). Today, responding to changing social conditions, the university has expanded its scope to include five faculties and three graduate schools, becoming a comprehensive university of culture and science related to the body.

The educational significance of sports goes without saying. Besides its effects on physical abilities, sports also impact social, emotional, and cognitive functions. It aligns well with the main theme of this conference, "Diversity and Inclusion." Understanding how to teach sports, which foster connections among individuals, and bridging the gap between theory and practice is paramount. Therefore, holding an international conference on this theme at our university feels timely.

We hope this conference brings together numerous participants from Japan and abroad, fostering lively discussions and deepening exchanges. The outcomes of these discussions are expected to have a significant impact on the field of sports. We sincerely invite you to join us and actively participate in the conference."

The Japanese Society of Sport Education will host the 2023 International Conference and the 11th East Asian Alliance of Sport Pedagogy at the Setagaya Campus of Nippon Sport Science University from September 23 to September 24, 2023. The conference's theme is "Promoting Diversity and Inclusion in Physical Education and Sport, and Beyond." This year's conference will coincide with the International Conference, which takes place every five years.

As a member of the East Asian Alliance of Sport Pedagogy, the Japanese Society of Sport Education has engaged in annual exchange activities with the Korean Association of Sport Pedagogy and the Taiwan Society of Sport Pedagogy, fostering research collaborations. Building on the outcomes of these exchanges, we disseminate our research findings widely every five years, inviting researchers from Asia, Europe, the United States, and the Pacific Rim to deepen further research exchanges on sport pedagogy both in Japan and internationally.

The theme of this year's conference aims to achieve mutual recognition in the field of physical education and sports education, transcending differences in nationality, gender, age, culture, values, disabilities, and various other backgrounds. We are confident that the conference will deliver meaningful messages to society and empower individuals in the field of physical education and sports education, as well as in the global sports community.

In an era of increased interconnectedness through social media, the world has become smaller, and significant changes have taken place. In this context, the role and power of sports, often referred to as the universal language, have become even more vital in education as it transcends differences. Given the major transformations occurring in sports education, we consider this gathering of our members, where they can come together, transcending their differences, and engage in close-knit discussions, as an invaluable and essential opportunity.

We encourage all our members to make every effort to attend the conference. We eagerly anticipate seeing you all at Nippon Sport Science University.

We look forward to welcoming you to the International Conference on September 23-24, 2023, at Nippon Sport Science University under the theme “How To Promote Diversity and Inclusion in Physical Education, Sport, and Beyond”.

The Japanese Society of Sport Education has held an international conference once every five years since its establishment. The English corresponding to the Japanese name of the Society is Sport Education, not Sport Pedagogy. Still, we need to confirm this intention with the founders of the Society, but holding international conferences is an opportunity for us to reaffirm what we aim to achieve under this name.

In fact, by holding international conferences, the Society has provided opportunities to disseminate knowledge accumulated in Japan to those outside of Japan and grasp trends in research internationally through direct exchanges with researchers outside of Japan. This has been a process of reassessing and developing our research issues in the context of Japan, both as an academic society and as individual members. This effort has been even more fruitful through exchanges with the Korean and Taiwanese partner societies.

Only a limited number of academic societies in Japan related to physical education, sport, and health regularly hold international congresses in this manner. For this reason, I express my deep appreciation for the foresight of our predecessors in setting such conditions.

However, by setting a period of once every five years, the question will be asked about what we can communicate internationally during this period in light of the international situation. It is also an opportunity to evaluate how we have accumulated research outcomes and built human networks.

In this respect, we want to incorporate opportunities to encourage the active participation of participants in planning this year's conference. The Practical Session is a good example; setting up the e-poster session is another attempt to diversify the presentation format.

Through this conference, we hope the research results produced in Japan will be exchanged with national and international researchers, practitioners, and government officials, creating opportunities for a better society.
