[2Hp09] Exploring the Impact of Solvent Choice on the Synthesis and Properties of ZIF-8 Nanoparticles
This study explores water as an alternative solvent to methanol for synthesizing Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8). While methanol is known for high yields and crystallinity in ZIF-8 synthesis, its unfavorable properties necessitate a safer and greener substitute. Initial water-based attempts yielded sub-optimal outcomes due to water's high polarity, which interfered with synthesis. We comprehensively compare physicochemical attributes of ZIF-8 synthesized in both solvents and examine precursor ratio effects on yield and crystallinity. Our aim extends beyond mere solvent comparison; we seek to reveal inherent characteristics that enhance water-based synthesis. This research advances discussions on green chemistry and sustainable ZIF production, promoting eco-friendly practices.
