[PY-94] The Effect of Various Temperature and Time in Sulfurization of Copper Tape Electrodeposited with Sn and Zn for Making CZTS Solar Cell
Keywords:Sulfurization, CZTS, Solar Cell
Solar cell technology have been advancing quickly in recent years and higher efficiency have been achieved by many type of solar cells. However, the production method of solar cells remains expensive and requires much capital cost and complex technology. For solar cells to replace fossil fuel as our main energy source, it is important to scale solar cell production by many folds. In this research, a production method based on existing basic technology (electrodeposition, roll-to-roll) is proposed for CZTS solar cells. CZTS (copper zinc tin sulfide) uses only non-toxic and widely available material, resulting in a cheaper solar cells.
The production method proposed here is to deposit zinc and tin directly on copper tape. The copper tape is used both as copper source and to replace molybdenum as the back contact. By using a copper tape it is also possible to use the roll-to-roll method and produce the solar cell at a high rate. For the development of this method it is important to understand the phase change that occurs during the sulfurization of the copper tape electrodeposited with Sn and Zn.
Tin and zinc were electrodeposited onto a copper tape which was then sulfurized at various time and temperature to understand. The surface of the copper tape after the reaction was characterized with XRD, SEM, and EDX to understand the phase change occurring on the surface of the tape. Preliminary results showed that copper sulfide formation is very facile at higher temperature. Other results will be presented on our poster.
