In this study, the flotation effect of the three aniline compounds with different alkyl chains, 2-(butylthio)aniline (2-BA), 2-(hexylthio)aniline (2-HA), 2-(octylthio)aniline (2-OA), and the conventional collector, potassium amylxanthate (PAX) was compared on a copper sulfide ore. The performance of the four reagents under different conditions such as collector dosage, pulp pH, particle size and pulp density was investigated in the copper sulfide ore flotation. The results showed that the (octylthio)aniline type (2-OA) that held a long alkyl chain performed well as a collector, exhibiting better flotability than PAX and aniline with shorter alkyl chains under the same flotation conditions. The length of alkyl chains of collectors plays an important role in flotation.
