ヒトのプリオン病の克服に向けた取り組みが進んでいる。本シンポジウムでは、自然歴・病態の解明や抗プリオン病薬治験のための患者登録研究（JACOP）、現在のプリオン病の分類や診断基準についての問題点や今後の課題、精度の高い臨床診断に直結する生体試料からの異常プリオンタンパク検出法の開発、プリオン病に対する治療法開発の進捗状況について講演し討議する。
