[EANF-02-1] New approaches to prevent diseases caused by West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne flaviviruses

Professor Roy Hall obtained his PhD in virology at James Cook University of North Queensland, Australia and is currently a teaching and research Professor at the University of Queensland and a founding member of the Australian Infectious Diseases Research Centre. He has spent the last 35 years researching mosquito-borne viruses with a focus on the emergence of flaviviruses that cause neurological disease. With collaborators, his lab has investigated the pathogenesis of West Nile virus using animal models and elucidated viral factors associated with virulent infection. A recent focus of his research is on using mosquito-specific viruses as vehicles for the development of safe recombinant vaccines and diagnostics against West Nile virus and other flavivirus pathogens.
