Teruyuki Hirano is a stroke neurologist and director of the Stroke Center and deputy director general of Kyorin University Hospital (Mitaka, Tokyo). He is also Professor of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Medicine and Professor of Neurology at Kyorin University School of Medicine. After graduating from Kumamoto University in 1988, he completed a 3-year residency at the National Cardiovascular Center (Suita, Osaka), followed by a research fellowship at the National Stroke Research Institute of the University of Melbourne (Australia). He serves as a director of the Japan Stroke Society, the Japanese Society of Neurotherapeutics, and the Cardiovascular Stroke Society of Japan. He is a board member of the World Stroke Organization and an ExCO of the Asia Pacific Stroke Organization. His main research interests are acute stroke therapy and acute stroke imaging in the context of thrombolysis and thrombectomy.
