[HT-03-4] Updates of ALS research in PACTALS (Pan-Asian Consortium for the Treatment and Research in ALS)
Dr. Seung H Kim is a neurology professor, director of the ALS clinic, and Korean NIH-sponsored Stem Cell Therapy Center at Hanyang Univ. Hospital, Seoul, Korea. He is the President of the Korean Neurological Association.
A therapeutic strategy using autologous Bone Marrow that originated Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy for ALS was approved as an orphan drug in the Korean NIH research project. He put autologous stem cell therapy into clinical practice to treat ALS. He is now conducting translational research in neurodegenerative diseases to develop stratified and precision medicine based on the unique genetic background of the Korean and Asian populations. With these works, Prof. Kim received the 2016 Secret of Life Award from the Catholic Foundation and Awards from the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning. He is now conducting a project to develop immune-inflammatory biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases.
