[IE-02-4] What's New in Surgical Interventions for Epilepsy?
Dr Sofia Eriksson is a consultant neurologist and honorary clinical associate Professor at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, UK, specialising in epilepsy and neurological sleep disorders. She started her medical career in Göteborg, Sweden, before joining the Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy (DCEE) in London in 1998 as part of her PhD. She was awarded her PhD in 2003 after which she did a post doc in the DCEE.
Her initial research focused on brain malformations and epilepsy and her current research interests focus on the relationship between sleep, sleep disorders and other neurological conditions.
Dr Eriksson is the clinical lead for Epilepsy and Neurological Sleep services at the National Hospital and in her clinical practice she sees, investigates and treats patients with epilepsy ranging from first seizure to medically refractory epilepsy that requires surgical treatment. She also cares for patients with hypersomnolence and paroxysmal nocturnal events (parasomnias).
Having been on the Association of British Neurologists’ Council since 2019, she joined the executive committee in 2023 as chair of the quality committee and is also an associate editor for Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry since 2022.
