Liz Coulthard is professor of cognitive neurology at the University of Bristol. Her preclinical study was at the University of Oxford, she trained clinically in London, Newcastle and Bristol and her PhD was completed at University College London. She leads the multidisciplinary ReMemBR research group (Research into Memory, the Brain and Dementia) and runs a cognitive disorders clinic where she routinely uses early diagnostic biomarkers for Alzheimer’s and other dementias. She investigates sleep, long-term memory and blood biomarkers in Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy body diseases, with a view to developing interventions for sleep to help prevent decline and improve quality of life in prodromal and established dementia. She also leads a site delivery team for the phase II/III pharmaceutical trials of disease-modifying therapies. She sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, as well as the Medical Research Council and Association of British Neurologists doctoral fellowship panels.
