[Pr] From Non-curable to Curable Neurology-Elucidation of the Pathophysiology of Neurological Diseases and Molecular Targeted Therapy-
Dr. Tatsushi Toda is Professor of Neurology, Graduate School of Medicine, University of Tokyo and President of Japanese Society of Neurology. He graduated from University of Tokyo in 1985 and entered into Department of Neurology, University of Tokyo. In 1996, he was appointed as Associate professor of Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo. In 2000, he was appointed as Professor of Clinical Genetics, Osaka University. In 2009, he was appointed as Professor of Neurology, Kobe University. From 2017, he holds the current position. He identified genes for Fukuyama muscular dystrophy (Nature Genet 1993, Nature 1998), muscle-eye-brain disease (Dev Cell 2001), and PD-susceptibility (Nature Genet 2009), and he found antisense therapy for Fukuyama CMD (Nature 2011) and new glycosylation and defect in muscular dystrophy (Cell Reports 2016). His research interests include genetics of Parkinson's disease, neuromuscular disorders, higher brain functions, and antisense therapy for Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy. He has received Japanese Society of Human Genetics Award, Japan Foundation for Aging and Health Award, Japanese Society of Neurology Award, Asahi Award, Award from Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Tokizane Memorial Award, and Japan Academy Prize.
