[OMC7-01(Invited)] Customizing superfluid turbulence with vortex tweezers
Precision optical control has emerged as a leading technique for the trapping and manipulation of dilute-gas atomic superfluids. I will describe our techniques for using these traps to both confine and stir up quasi two-dimensional (2D) Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs), leading to the recent realization of a vortex-matter simulator of the one-component plasma (OCP), an archetypical model of long-range interacting particles in 2D.
