[S21] Dynamics of biometals from a viewpoint of the interactions with biomolecules and proteins

Fri. Mar 27, 2020 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM [Room B] Room B-1 (2F)

Organizers: Hitomi Fujishiro (Tokushima Bunri Univ), Takashi Toyama (Tohoku Univ)

Many metals in the body play important roles in the maintenance of life. These biometals exert their functions via binding to and interaction with the biomolecules and proteins in various ways. In order to understand the biological activities of the organisms at the molecular level, it is necessary to elucidate the interactions of biometals with biomolecules and proteins. To clarify the existence forms of biometals in tissues and cells, new methods including the conditional proteomics, speciation, laser ablation ICP-MS, and single particle ICP-MS have been developed. Time-resolved spectroscopy and structural analysis of dynamic structural changes of metal transporters and metal binding proteins can clarify the roles of biometals in vivo. Analysis of the interaction of toxic metals with biomolecules and proteins is also indispensable for elucidating the mechanism of toxic metal toxicity. In this symposium, we will discuss the biometal dynamics from a viewpoint of interactions with biomolecules and proteins using latest research technologies.
