[S28] Adverse event and its solution caused by the interaction of pharmaceutical and polymeric medical device

Fri. Mar 27, 2020 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM [Room B] Room B-1 (2F)

Organizers: Yuji Haishima (NIHS), Keisei Fujimori (TUH)

A fracture, degradation or blockade of polymeric medical devices caused by the interaction with certain pharmaceuticals has been reported as an adverse event occurring in hospitals. Occurrence of the adverse event originates from the inadequate verification in the pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers and the unsuitable management system in the medical institutions. In this symposium, we will introduce the adverse events reported to date, all combinations of pharmaceuticals and medical devices that may cause the interaction, and the causes of event and its solution. In addition, based on the results of the survey of package inserts for pharmaceuticals and medical devices and a nationwide survey of medical institutions, we will report on the appropriate method for their information sharing and precautionary measure by staffs in hospitals. In this symposium, we would like to share the latest information on the interactions between pharmaceuticals and medical devices with health care workers including pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers and pharmacists through these topics and comprehensive discussion to reduce the occurrence of the adverse events.
