[S29] Frontier research in membrane curvature on roles as molecular reaction sites

Multiple proteins work together to transform a two-dimensional biological membrane into a three-dimensional curved surface structure, when intracellular vesicle transport, cell division, cell movement, and exosome secretion occur. Because the formation of the highly curved structure induces other proteins for transmitting signals, membrane curvature formation plays an important role in promoting the integration of functional molecules as a scaffold for information transmission. In recent years, it has been reported that membrane curvature formation is deeply involved in cancer cell motility, neurological diseases, and intercellular communication. Therefore, a new function of membrane curvatures as a reaction accumulation field of biomolecules is an attracting attention.
In this symposium, we will discuss the latest membrane-curvature researches related to various biological phenomena from the molecular mechanism of membrane curvature formation to disease onset and drug delivery.
