[S30] Novel protein chemistry tools: creation and application

Fri. Mar 27, 2020 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM [Room D] Room D (1F)

Organizers: Nobumasa Hino (Grad Sch Pharm Sci, Osaka Univ), Takashi Umehara (RIKEN)

With the recent advances in the chemical biology field, it has been actively promoted to develop a wide variety of technologies for protein chemistry research. For example, multifunctional chemical probes have contributed to identifying drug target proteins, and bio-orthogonal modification methods have enabled us to provide novel or improved functions to proteins. On the other hand, to demonstrate the true value of these technologies, it is also important to consider whether these technologies can be used by researchers who specialize in biology and medicine. In this symposium, researchers who specialize in chemistry and biochemistry will introduce cutting-edge technologies, including the latest photo-affinity probes, drug-targeted protein discovery tools, and site-specific incorporation of non-natural amino acids into a protein. We will also introduce examples of study which has become possible by using these technologies. By giving lectures on protein chemistry from the perspectives of chemistry and biochemistry, we would like to provide opportunities for discussions with pharmaceutical science researchers from diverse backgrounds and to promote collaboration between different fields.
