In 2016, the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan (PSJ) issued a "declaration of a society that allows gender equality" to society. The PSJ also decided to work actively to create a society where all people, regardless of gender or age, can play an active role in an equal position. As part of this effort, the PSJ's Gender Equality Committee plays a central role, and during the annual meeting of the PSJ, the Board Planning Symposium has been held three times (137th Annual Meeting in Sendai, 138th Annual Meeting in Kanazawa, and 139th Annual Meeting in Chiba). At these symposia, we have been discussing the direction to be addressed by the PSJ by grasping the current situation and problems related to gender equality focusing on young people and the intergenerational / gender gap. This time, as a new starting point, a symposium has been planned on the theme of an international comparison of gender equality, and experts from the Cabinet Office, foreign pharmaceutical companies, and foreign countries are invited as symposiasts. On the basis of the international perspective information provided from the symposiasts, the current situation in Japan is grasped, and discussions with the audience at the venue on the proposed issues and improvement strategies will be deepened. We want to explore strategies to realize a gender-equal society.
