Recently, the development of the information and communication technology has made it possible to obtain lots of up-to-date information almost everywhere in developed countries. In the field of scientific research, the newest articles and research discussion via Internet are easily available, and the globalization of the research will be accelerating further. Most important aspects of research are to develop human networks and to expand international collaborative research based on overseas research experiences, which may be necessary for researcher globalization. In this symposium, five symposists who have overseas research experiences will talk about what inspired them to go abroad and what they have done in laboratories outside Japan. From these speeches, we would like to discuss how to set up international collaborative researches and promote researcher globalization. Furthermore, we hope that these speeches are not just the role models of overseas research for students and researchers who have no overseas research experiences, but encourage them to decide to go abroad to do research in near future.
