[S49] Searching for a way to pass on pharmacists' role in supporting the basis for infection control to the next generation

Sat. Mar 28, 2020 1:45 PM - 3:45 PM [Room T] Sakura (1F)

Organizers: Katsutoshi Takada (Japanese Red Cross Narita Hosp), Masami Tsugita (Dept Pharmacy, Niigata Univ of Pharmacy and Applied Life Sci)

In ICT and AST, pharmacists are required to assure a high level of quality for their practice and activities regarding infection control by capitalizing on their expertise and skills. They have steadily produced good results by taking various proactive measures. Passing on their expertise and skills regarding infection control learned through such practice and activities is truly the process of "connection" between the current and the next generation in the field. It is, therefore, essential to find an effective way to pass on such expertise and skills from the current pharmacists to the next generation through cooperation between educational settings and clinical settings. In this symposium, we will discuss the current situation regarding infection control education in the model core curriculum for pharmacy education. Then, we will have presentations, from the perspective of educators of basic and clinical pharmacy and that of clinical pharmacists, on various measures to pass on such expertise and skills. This symposium will provide an opportunity to ponder upon pharmacy and pharmacist education, which will contribute to nurturing the next generation in the field to pass on the importance of infection control.
