[S42] Methods of Analysis in Health Science Symposium ~ Let's understand radiations correctly to be afraid of them properly~

Sat. Mar 28, 2020 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM [Room U] Swan (1F)

Organizers: Akiko Hachisuka (NIHS), Takashi Sugita (Meiji Pharmaceutical Univ)

Environmental pollution of radioactive materials has been caused by the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and has become a social problem. However, we live not only in artificial radiation from accidents, but also in natural radiation and artificial radiation for peaceful use. In order to be afraid of these radiations properly, it is necessary to understand them correctly.
In this symposium, we will focus on radioactive substances in foods among the many types of radiation that exist in the living environment. First, we will explain the radiation and its measurement method in order to understand the object. Next, we will introduce the management system of radioactive substances in food, the results of food inspection, and the transfer of radioactive substances from soil to crops. Finally, we will present the concept of radiation risk management and provide a forum for deepening knowledge about scientifically rational methods for human coexistence with radiation. This basic concept of risk management can be applied to various hazardous substances and it is also beneficial to the pharmaceutical field.
