[S23] New perspective on metal research: forefront of research targeting humans from molecules

Sun. Mar 28, 2021 1:15 PM - 3:00 PM [Room G] Oral Presentation G (Online)

Organizer: Iwai-Shimada Miyuki (National Institute for Environmental Studies), Fujishiro Hitomi (Pharm. Sci., Tokushima Bunri Univ.)

In recent years, reports on children’s health effects due to exposure to chemicals, including metals (metalloids), have increased, and large-scale birth cohort surveys are conducted worldwide. In Japan, the Ministry of the Environment is taking the lead in conducting a nationwide birth cohort study as the Japan Environment Children’s Study (JECS). The JECS follows from pregnancy to the age of 13 with the cooperation of approximately 100,000 mothers and children. The analysis of maternal blood metal concentrations (mercury, lead, cadmium, manganese, selenium) of 100,000 participants has been completed, and the relationship with various outcomes is being analyzed. This symposium introduces the latest results obtained from the JECS research on metals research and introduces our new research efforts using deciduous teeth. Besides, we present new analytical techniques for metals and research focusing on metals’ biological functions and structures. We will discuss new perspectives on metal research utilizing new analytical techniques and evaluating based on biological processes and chemical forms through this symposium.

オーガナイザー挨拶:藤代 瞳(徳島文理大薬) (1:15 PM - 1:17 PM)

まとめ:岩井 美幸(国環研) (2:55 PM - 3:00 PM)
