[S25] Practice of proper use of medicines in community pharmacies

Sun. Mar 28, 2021 1:15 PM - 3:15 PM [Room I] Oral Presentation I (Online)

Organizer: Hiroyuki Kido (Chemist and Pharmacist), Takahito Sonobe (Kitasato Univ. School of Pharmacy)

Efforts for the proper use of medicines are the basic business of community pharmacies. It has been done in various ways. However, in order to respond to the rapid aging of the population and the upgrading of medical care, it is necessary to further improve the quality of efforts and put them into practice widely. For this reason, in the future, it will be more important not only for individual pharmacies to work independently, but also for pharmacies in the entire region to work together and to work in collaboration with nearby medical institutions.
In this symposium, we introduce examples of pioneering and unique efforts toward the proper use of medicines in the region. Firstly, a case in which the medical association, pharmacist association, etc. cooperate to create and operate a regional formulary, which is a collection of recommended medicines in the region, ahead of the rest of the country. Secondly, a case of establishing and operating a side effect reporting system in collaboration with a local pharmacist association and a core hospital for the purpose of ensuring the safety of outpatients after taking medicines. And introduce other cases. We hope that this symposium will help the proper use of quality medicines to be practiced in a wide range of regions.
In addition, we would like to discuss with not only pharmacists but also faculty members about education for pharmacy students regarding participation in community medicine at community pharmacies.
