[S33] Frontier research of medium-molecular compounds in development of functional peptides targeting biomolecules

Mon. Mar 29, 2021 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM [Room C] Oral Presentation C (Online)

Organizers: Kawano Kenichi (ICR, Kyoto Univ.), Nakase Ikuhiko (Osaka Pref. Univ.)

Development of peptide-based medium-molecule medical drugs is remarkable. The drugs have high binding affinity and specificity to target molecules as well as membrane permeability, so they play an important role in complementing areas where small-molecule drugs and antibody drugs can not cover. The licensed peptide-based medical drugs are mainly bioactive substances, but researches on development of functional peptides with targeting specific molecules is also being actively performed. Functional peptides have the ability to highly recognize target molecules even under complicated conditions in which diverse biomolecules co-exist, and exibit a wide variety of functions depending on the constituent amino acids, sequences, and length so on. Therefore, by combinating functional peptides and existing drugs, it is expected to achieve the site-specific drug delivery and desired drug effect with high efficiency. In this symposium, we will discuss the development of functional peptides based on new perspectives and ideas, and their application researches.
