Faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling can improve the spectral efficiency of wireless communications by using a higher symbol rate than the Nyquist rate. However, FTN signaling suffers from severe inter-symbol interference (ISI), which can degrade the transmission performance. To alleviate the degradation, this paper proposes an iterative maximum likelihood detection (MLD) receiver (I-MLD) for FTN, which can reduce the complexity by iterative process and can improve the bit error rate (BER) compared to the conventional matrix-based method [1]. I-MLD is composed of a soft-input soft-output (SISO) detector, a soft-input hard-output (SIHO) decoder, and a channel estimator. Computer simulations show that I-MLD can achieve excellent BER performance.
